The first half was abysmal for Cannon Falls Thursday against Rochester Lourdes in Rochester.

The Bombers trailed 40-10 at halftime and committed 14 turnovers. In the second half, Cannon Falls picked up its defensive play but still couldn’t score enough in a 59-21 loss to the Eagles.

“Just a really rough shooting night,” Cannon Falls head coach Eric Mace said. “The offense executed but we need to knock down shots.”

The Bombers (0-2) made just 5 of 22 shots inside the paint and attempted one 3-pointer as Lourdes played a 2-3 zone the entire game.

“That tells you our tentative nature,” Mace said. “We played better in the second half. It’s going to be more about not looking at the scoreboard and looking at small victories and improvements.”

Courtney Woodcock led Cannon Falls with six points as the Bombers made 25 turnovers in the loss.

The Eagles made 9 of 19 3-pointers and were led by Katie Helt and Anna Branstad, who each finished with 13 points and four 3-pointers made.

Cannon Falls is back in action tonight against Ellsworth at 6 p.m. in Cannon Falls.
