Goodhue traveled to Hayfield Tuesday night and came away with a 72-59 victory.

The Wildcats trailed 36-35 at halftime but played better defense in the second half to get the victory, Goodhue head coach Josh Wieme said.

“I think we just woke up that we’ve got to take a lot more pride in our defense,” he said. “We challenged them and they responded and started getting stops.”

Mikayla Miller led the Wildcats (2-1) with 27 points and 12 rebounds while Kali Ryan contributed 12 points and six rebounds.

Jo Bungum scored 18 points to lead Hayfield.

Goodhue was 25-for-47 from the field, including 6 of 16 on 3-pointers, but shot just 16 of 37 from the free-throw line. Hayfield was 22 of 61 from the field, 5-for-18 from three and 10 of 19 from the free-throw line.

The Wildcats host Stewartville Friday.
