All-Area Volleyball: Cannon Falls leads All-Area selections

First team

Becca Vandenheuvel,

junior, Cannon Falls

Cannon Falls junior libero Becca Vandenheuvel finds herself on the All-Area first team for the second straight year after helping the Bombers to a 23-6 overall record, an 11-2 mark in the Hiawatha Valley League, and the No. 3 seed in the Section 1AA-West tournament.

Already the career digs leader at Cannon Falls (1,525), Vandenheuvel put up another solid season in the Bombers’ back row with 433 digs. She also had 209 ace serves and had the highest serve percentage on the team.

Vandenheuvel was named All-Hiawatha Valley Leauge for the third consecutive season.

Hailey Huseth,

freshman, Cannon Falls

In just her first year as a starter, Cannon Falls setter/right-side hitter Hailey Huseth emerged as one of the most diverse weapons in the area.

An All-HVL selection, Huseth ranked second for the Bombers in kills (163), set assists (257) and ace serves (30). She also tallied 16 ace blocks and led the team’s starters with a .208 attack percentage.

Making an impact all over the court, Huseth earned Cannon Falls’ work ethic/determination team award.

Tiffanie Hoops,

senior, Lake City

Though the team struggled to a 5-19 record, Lake City outside hitter Tiffanie Hoops proved to be one of the toughest outside hitters in the area.

Picked for the All-HVL team, Hoops was a force in the front row, racking up 143 kills and 143 digs. The 5-foot-9 outside hitter also had 12 ace blocks.

Geena Miller,

senior, Zumbrota-Mazeppa

Patrolling the back row for Zumbrota-Mazeppa was senior libero Geena Miller, who made anything scored against the Cougars a hard-fought point.

An All-HVL selection, Miller led Z-M with 358 digs, and managed to get in on the offense with seven back-row kills.

She also generated points for the Cougars at the service line, finishing with 11 aces in helping Z-M to an 11-13 overall record and an 8-5 mark in the HVL.

Mikayla Tipcke,

junior, Goodhue

Last year’s All-Area Player of the Year, Goodhue junior setter Mikayla Tipcke continued as one of the Wildcats’ top weapons on the court.

Despite a concussion keeping her out of several games, Tipcke continued to control Goodhue’s 6-2 offense effectively with 338 set assists. She also racked up 33 ace serves, 164 digs and 94 kills, earning All-HVL honors for the third straight season, and helping the Wildcats to a 12-17-2 record.
