Delbert William Arden, 91, of Pine River, formerly of Red Wing, died on Sunday, Nov. 18, at the St. Joseph Medical Center in Brainerd.

Delbert William Arden, 91, of Pine River, formerly of Red Wing, died on Sunday, Nov. 18, at the St. Joseph Medical Center in Brainerd.

He was born on Aug. 7, 1921, in Florence Township, to George and Rose (Grote) Arden. He attended schools in Wacouta and Hay Creek Township and worked as a farmhand in his younger years in the Red Wing and Goodhue areas. On Sept. 30, 1942, he married Bernadine Dahling. On Oct. 20, 1942, he entered the U.S. Army, serving during World War II. He received his training in the 91st infantry division and later transferred to the 70th division. He served under General Patton in the 3rd Army in Germany. On Dec. 8, 1945, he was honorably discharged. On Jan. 9, 1946, he started working for SB Foot Tannery, retiring on Oct. 8, 1982. Bernadine died Dec. 20, 1997. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church.

Survivors include one son, Hilbert (Mary) Arden of Pine River; one grandson, Bill Arden of Brainerd, and one granddaughter, Sandra Arden; two sisters, Donna Vieths of Red Wing and Dorraine Hernlem of Hastings; several nieces and nephews; and good friend, Tara.

He was preceded in death by his wife; two brothers, Donald and Dorman; and one sister, Doris Gernentz.

Funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 24, at St. John's Lutheran Church with Rev. Todd Engel officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 23, at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel, and at the church for 1 hour prior to the service. Memorials preferred to the DAV.
