A Holstein cow had to be put down after it was apparently shot by a hunter, the Goodhue County Sheriff’s Office reported.

Elizabeth Pearson, Welch, reported Nov. 17 that one of her cows had been shot while it was on their property on County Road 6 in Featherstone Township. It’s believed the cow had been shot sometime that morning.

There were several hunters in the area on both private and state-owned land, the Sheriff’s Office said. The animal was valued at $1,000.
