Geographic Information Systems Day is today and is part of National Geography Week. Throughout the week, the Goodhue County GIS Department is holding a poster and map display in the main floor atrium of the Government Center, 509 W. Fifth St.

GIS Day encourages GIS users and vendors to open their doors to schools, businesses and the public to showcase the real-world applications of this technology. For more information, go to http://www.gisday.com.

National Geographic Society created National Geography Awareness Week in 1987 to promote geographic literacy in schools, communities and organizations with a focus on the education of children.
