Department of Public Safety says October is deadliest month

October has been the deadliest month yet this year for unbelted motorists, the Minnesota Department of Public Safety reported. To date, 87 motorists killed in crashes were not buckled in. Fifteen of those deaths were in October.

The state’s Click It or Ticket campaign, which ended Oct. 26, yielded 8,569 citations for motorists not wearing seat belts.

However, the DPS recently announced Minnesota’s statewide seat belt use rate is at a record high of 93.6 percent.
