A 53-year-old man was injured Tuesday when he was caught in a grain auger, the Goodhue County Sheriff’s Office reported. Jonathan Cobb, Ellendale, Minn., was working in a corn bin in at 9256 460th St. in Cherry Grove Township just after noon when he was caught and pinned by the machinery.
The belt on the auger burned out, stopping the auger, but Cobb was still pinned by the machinery. He was able to call 911 himself before another worker cut the power to the auger.
Once on scene, emergency personnel dismantled the machinery and released Cobb. He was airlifted by Mayo One to St. Marys Hospital in Rochester.
The property Cobb was working at is owned by Roger Overby but the bin is leased out to Steve Boyum, who employs Cobb.
Assisting at the scene were the Wanamingo First Responders, Zumbrota Ambulance, Kenyon Police Department, and the Minnesota State Patrol.
