Harsdorf fends off challenger

Sheila Harsdorf, who has represented the Wisconsin 10th Senate District since 2001 and survived a recall attempt last year, won re-election.

With 86 percent of voting units in the district reporting at 11:30 p.m., she had 45,328 votes to 29,436 for her challenger, Daniel C. Olson.

In St. Croix County, with all voting units reporting, Harsdorf had 27,988 votes to Olson’s 16,924. In Pierce County, Harsdorf had 3,240 voted to Olson’s 3,280.

Harsdorf, 56, a Republican from the town of River Falls, ran for her fourth term in the Senate.

Olson, 43, a political newcomer, is a world history and government teacher in St. Croix Falls School District. He has been a member of the Wisconsin Army National Guard since 1989.

The 10th District changed after the U.S. census results met redistricting. The new district comprises the town and city of River Falls in Pierce County; most of St. Croix County, including the cities of Hudson and New Richmond; part of Dunn County, including the city of Menomonie; and most of Polk and Burnett counties.
