Incumbent Republicans Tim Kelly and Steve Drazkowski beat out Democratic challengers in House Districts 21A and 21B.
In District 21A, Kellly ended the night with 12,176 votes to Bacon’s 8,967. With all but one precinct reporting for District 21B at press time, Drazkowski led Montplaisir with 11,559 votes to 8,357.
“I look forward to serving the district again and feel honored and humbled that we could come back for a third term,” Kelly said.
While Kelly added that he’s looking forward to the next two years, he also said that he knows there’s a lot of work still to be done.
“It’s as important as ever to make sure that we can work together bipartisanly,” he said. “It’s not like problems go away. We still have work to do.”
Kelly also thanked Bacon for campaigning the way he did.
“I certainly appreciate Mr. Bacon and the way he went about (the campaign) … It was a good way for us to run a race,” Kelly said. “We had very (good) conversations in debates and forums. We were always to the issue.”
Bacon declined to comment on Tuesday’s results.
Like Kelly, Drazkowski also thanked voters.
“I’m pleased with the support that I received from the voters and I’m humbled by their support,” he said.
Montplaisir said a late start to campaigning and being “pretty much an unknown” may have led to his defeat in House District 21B.
“I kind of interviewed for a job and it doesn’t look like I won this one,” he said.
Montplaisir said he did go door to door throughout district and outlined both his and Drazkowski’s backgrounds.
“They make a choice, that’s the way it is,” Montplaisir said.
Drazkowski said he’s looking forward to continuing to serve his constituents.
“We’ll pledge to continue to serve our district with integrity and the work ethic that I’ve demonstrated at this point,” he said. “I thank (constituents) for their faith and belief in my ability to lead in the Legislature on their behalf.”
