1:30 a.m.: Matt Schmit has claimed victory in the state Senate District 21 race with 84 of 87 precincts reporting. Incumbent John Howe conceded, both candidates said. Schmit had 20,941 votes for 52.4 percent while Howe received 18,974 votes, or 47.48 percent.

Midnight: With 82 of 87 precincts reporting, democrat Matt Schmit is holding on to the lead for the state Senate District 21 seat over incumbent John Howe. Schmit has 19,588 votes (52.08 percent) while Howe has 17,973 votes (47.79 percent).

11:35 p.m.: Democrat Matt Schmit is winning state Senate District 21 with 62 of 87 precincts reporting. Schmit has 14,314 votes (51.37 percent) while Howe has 13,519 votes (48.52 percent). There have been 30 write-ins.

11:10 p.m.: Democrat Matt Schmit is continuing to hold the lead over incumbent Republican John Howe for the state Senate District 21 seat. With 53 of 87 precincts reporting, Schmit is leading with 11,311 votes (51.19 percent) while Howe has garnered 10,762 votes (48.71 percent).

10:50 p.m.: With nearly half of the precincts reporting, Matt Schmit is hanging on to the lead for the state Senate District 21 race over Republican incumbent John Howe. Schmit has 8,363 votes (51.07 percent) while Howe has 7,995 votes (48.82 percent). There have been 18 write-ins.

10:20 p.m.: The race is tight, but democrat Matt Schmit is still edging out incumbent Republican John Howe for the state Senate District 21 seat. With 37 of 87 precincts reporting, Schmit has 7,114 votes (50.96 percent) while Howe has 6,832 (48.94 percent).

9:50 p.m.: Matt Schmit is holding on to the lead for the state Senate District 21 seat over Republican John Howe. With 23 of 87 precincts reporting, Schmit has 4,729 votes for 52 percent while Howe has 4,234 votes or 47 percent. There have been 12 write-ins.

9:35 p.m.: With 13 of 87 precincts reporting, democrat Matt Schmit is continuing to lead in the race for the state Senate District 21 seat over incumbent Republican John Howe. Totals currently are 2,055 for Schmit and 1,734 for Howe, with 10 write-ins.

9:20 p.m.: With eight of 87 precincts reporting, democrat Matt Schmit is leading incumbent Republican John Howe 682 votes to 480 votes for the state Senate District 21 seat. There has been one write-in candidate.
