Spotlight: While winter markets may be new to some, they have been gaining in popularity and are springing up all over the country. They offer the shopper a source for locally made items that complement the farm produce.
The Winter Red Wing Farmers Market opens at 9 a.m. Saturday Nov. 10 at Sargents Nursery.
The typical summer vegetables have now given way to squashes and root vegetables. One can also find a variety of vendors offering such items as frozen meats, sausage, pickles, jams, honey, breads, cakes, cookies, nut butters, handmade greeting cards and handcrafted soaps or lotions. New this year will be Hmong hand- and needlecrafts.
The Red Wing Area Farmers Market supports the health and well-being of the community by providing fresh, nutritious, sustainably grown foods and hand-made crafts.
Music will be provided by Sue West, a folk musician from this area, she received the Music CD of the Year award in 2009 from the Rural Roots Music Commission. She will be playing mellow traditional folk in a variety of styles from 10 a.m. to noon. Check out her web site at www.cdbaby.com/suewest4.
