To the Editor:
In the 10 years that I have lived in this community many things have changed. Demographics of our population, local programs, funding of different projects, residential enthusiasm and involvement, education, land development are just a few examples.
We have received large corporations into our community and seen many small and midsized businesses move on. There have been gains and losses. Our local leadership has also changed.
On Tuesday Nov. 6, Red Wing citizens will cast their ballot to elect a new mayor of our great city.
I, LaVergne Dickerson, am a candidate for mayor in the 2012 general election. In my commitment to this position, I have taken a great deal of time to educate myself and to visit with city department heads in an effort to develop a realistic view of our city’s needs, policies, procedures and operations. It is important to me that the community know the time and education investment that I have made when I chose to run for this office.
There are no simple answers to the many challenges we face as a city, but my leadership offers Red Wing strength, tenacity and a vision for a stronger cohesive community. I am committed to building up our collaborative relationships with our school district, social service agencies, House & Redevelopment Authority and workforce development programs to produce economic growth.
I genuinely care and have compassion for our population. I am dedicated to improving our community and representing it well.
Re-engagement of residents is also a priority in my leadership model. It is vital that citizens have a voice. I am committed to attending meetings and workshops regularly.
When anything new is being considered by the city I will always be there to learn, so I can help make good decisions. I am the people’s candidate.
