Paying tribute to stars George Harrison, Bob Dylan, Roy Orbison, Tom Petty and Jeff Lynne, the Trembling Wilburys play big hits and deep cuts.
The Traveling Wilburys formed in 1988 after a casual collaboration to fill a B-side single release for Harrison. They sounded so good they formed the group and released a Grammy-winning album. Some of their hits are “End of the Line” and “Handle with Care.”
Their name, taken from a nickname for faulty recording equipment caused Harrison to joke, “We'll bury 'em in the mix.” They initially considered the Trembling Wilburys, but chose Traveling instead. The new Trembling Wilburys have a different story, though.
The group claims the Wilbury clan was a group of traveling musicians, minstrels, if you will, who with the advent of radio and “popular music” began to die out. The last known survivor of the Wilbury clan, Charles Truscott Wilbury Sr., refused to go quietly into the night.
Continuing in his people’s proud tradition, he traveled the world for decades bringing joy and music wherever he travels - and leaving offspring. Striking out to pay homage to their older brothers, the St. Cloud, Minn., musicians found themselves a bit nervous as the Traveling Wilburys cast quite a large shadow. Thus the Trembling Wilburys were born.
The group includes Muggsy Lauer of Collective Unconscious and the George Mauer Group; Grant Haake and John Tetrault, both of the Revolution 5; Mark “Hazzy” Hasbrouk of Blimp and Strns Co. Pachanga Society; Jeff Lee of the Receders and Nelson Lee; Karl Van Beckum of Monday Night Jazz; and Mike Anderson of Monday Night Jazz and Collective Unconscious Pet Sounds.
