Iris Elaine Simonson, 83, of Red Wing, died on Oct. 25 at St. Brigid's at Hi-Park.

Iris Elaine Simonson, 83, of Red Wing, died on Oct. 25 at St. Brigid's at Hi-Park.

She was born on Oct. 6, 1929, in Frankford Township, Arkansaw, Wis., to Glen and Ida (DeMarce) Myers. She grew up in the Arkansaw area and graduated from Arkansaw High School in 1947. On June 21, 1951, she married Arnold Simonson at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. After their children were grown, she went to work at the Red Wing Shoe Company for 20 years. Arnold died on Jan. 4, 1990.

She was a member of United Lutheran Church, and in her spare time, she enjoyed traveling and reading. Her main joy in life was caring for others.

Iris is survived by seven children, Lynne Somerville of Red Wing, Patricia (Stanley) Snook of Helena, Mont., Julie (James Sr.) Newby of Bountiful, Utah, Rodney (Hope) Simonson of Bay City, Laurel (Daniel) Bram of Mason City, Iowa, Barbara (Timothy) Theobald of Burnsville, and Kathy (Jay) Clarke of Lakeville; 24 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Clayton (Geri) Myers of Arkansaw and Donald Myers of Arden Hills, Minn.; three sisters, Janice (Vaughn) Girard of Plum City, Wis., Jeanette (Danny) Richardson of Plum City, and Jackie (Brent) Herbst of Arkansaw; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one sister, Charlotte Marcks; and two nephews, Gary and Steve Myers.

Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, at United Lutheran Church in Red Wing, with Reverend Bob Iverson officiating. Burial will be at the Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 2, at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel, and 1 hour prior to the service at the church.
