Letter: Don't infringe on the right to vote

To the Editor:
Our country was founded on the positive outlook that people could be trusted to govern themselves and would, mostly, make sound decisions. People were good, on the whole, and were considered innocent until proven guilty.
I wish we could honor that sense of protecting people's rights to govern themselves, to vote. Our ideal is that people are not punished for wrongs committed until after they're proven guilty.
When voter fraud is proven to be a problem in Minnesota, we can set laws to control it, without even taking the drastic step of amending the Constitution.
Until then, we should not infringe on the rights of every eligible voter in Minnesota to vote.
