Red Wing’s losing streak extended to 16 matches Wednesday during the first round of the Section 1AAA tournament and it ended the 11th-seeded Wingers’ season against Farmington in Farmington.
The sixth-seeded Tigers won the match in three sets, 25-15, 25-13, 25-17.
Ninth-grader Sydney Book led Red Wing with five kills, senior McKenna Schaffer finished with eight digs, five set assists and two service aces and senior Macy Kelly added three kills. Senior Mary Anthony had a team-leading 12 digs, ninth-grader McKenzie Cota tallied six digs, five set assists and two ace serves while senior Abby Johnson contributed seven digs and one service ace in the loss.
“The girls showed a lot of progress winning many long volleys,” Red Wing head coach Heidi Ulwelling said. “I was very proud of their efforts; however, they fell short in their last match of the year.”
The Wingers finished the season 4-23.
