Football: Lake City survives scare
Tigers nearly lose a 21-point lead before putting away La Crescent in 1AAA quarterfinals
Lake City got its first playoff win since 2002 on Tuesday with the Section 1AAA win over La Crescent.
The Tigers held a 24-0 early in the third quarter but allowed a pesky La Crescent team back into the game. It got as close as 24-21 before the Lake City put the game away.
The Tigers (8-1 overall) were the No. 2 seed, while La Crescent was seeded seventh. Lake City advances to play sixth-seeded Winona Cotter at 7 p.m. Saturday at home. Cotter upset third-seed Stewartville 20-14 Tuesday.
Mitch Kuchinka scored three rushing touchdowns and finished with 58 rushing yards on 16 carries. Reid Lundell also scored and tallied 86 rushing yards on three attempts. Teammate Will Balow carried the ball 13 times for 61 yards, while Elliot Cox had nine attempts for 67 yards.
Matt Glasenapp had a 37-yard field goal with nine seconds remaining in the half for Lake City.
