Letter: Seifert honorable, cares

To the Editor:

My name is Michael and with the help of my mom, Karen, I want to tell you about Commissioner Ted Seifert, what he stands for and why.

I am the youngest of Ted’s four children and I was born with multiple medical anomalies. Had it not been for my dad incorporating Hiawatha HomeCare in 1988, I would have spent my whole life institutionalized.

But Dad did not let that happen. Dad applied for Minnesota Home Care licensure, hired nurses to take care of me 24 hours a day, turned operations of Hiawatha HomeCare over to my mom, then returned to work as an airline pilot.

He later gave up his airline pilot career to market and develop Hiawatha HomeCare, which now employs 180 people.

Ted is a responsible business man with 25 years of practical experience which he applies to county operations. Ted can logically process problems and arrive at reasonable and affordable solutions. We are all shaped by life experiences and something my Dad doesn’t usually talk about and take credit for is his military service. Ted joined the Marine Corps Platoon Leader Class during college.

Upon graduation Ted went into active duty, trained as a fighter pilot and cargo plan pilot. First Lt. Seifert deployed to Vietnam and flew 30 to 50 combat missions during his 13-month tour of duty (Dad doesn’t remember the exact number of missions). 

Ted spent five years active duty and nearly 10 more years in the Marine Corps Reserve before becoming a full-time civilian. I am telling you this personal story about my dad because I want people to understand what an honorable and dedicated man he has always been.

This applies to me personally, Goodhue County and the United States of America.

Ted Seifert – Dad – is one of the most honorable, honest and brave men I will ever know. Please vote for his re-election to the County Board.
