Letter: Vote Dickerson, an amazing woman

To the Editor:

LaVergne Manuel Dickerson offers a dramatic and, suddenly, a pragmatic and realistic chance for the people of Red Wing to improve our community. In the recent League of Women Voters-sponsored debate with Dennis Egan, she revealed an intelligence about the inner workings of the city that enhances my admiration for this remarkable woman.

LaVergne, divorced, black, loving mother of seven children, has overcome innumerable obstacles to become a leading citizen, highly educated, skilled in several varied occupations, a great communicator, active in numerous school and community affairs. She has an insight and compassion for others that comes from a life-long struggle with adversity.

Somehow there is not a shred of bitterness, nothing but a desire, a fearlessness, and an unshakable determination to make life better for all of us.

I have no quarrel with Dennis Egan, but the time is ripe for a truly great leader who can bring this community together. Here is such a person. Elect LaVergne Manuel Dickerson for mayor.
