Incumbent John Howe and challenger Matt Schmit are seeking to represent the new Senate District 21 in the state Legislature.

Both candidates advocate working outside party lines to get things done. Howe and Schmit also focus on the need to reform the way taxes are structured in the state and said jobs, education funding and balancing Minnesota’s budget are top priorities.

Howe said working to reduce “government’s footprint” is one of his main goals as well while Schmit said equalizing Local Government Aid and taxes is key.
