Kelly, Bacon seek 21A House seat

Current Rep. Tim Kelly of Red Wing and challenger John Bacon of Lake City are vying for the newly-formed district 21A’s state House of Representatives seat.

Among the differences between the two candidates are views on how to balance the state budget. Kelly, who is seeking a third term, noted that raising taxes is unnecessary if government spending can be checked. Bacon, however, said closing tax loopholes and possibly raising taxes on the highest earners would help generate necessary revenue and that more cuts to government services would be difficult.

Kelly and Bacon shared the notion that public education funding and quality are top priorities.
