Letter: Keep city great; support sales tax
On Election Day this November, the residents of Red Wing have an opportunity to help ensure a thriving future for our community by voting yes for the local sales tax question.
To the Editor,
On Election Day this November, the residents of Red Wing have an opportunity to help ensure a thriving future for our community by voting yes for the local sales tax question.
The sale tax option will be only one half of one percent - for $10 that is only 5 cents. But it adds up. The city estimates the tax will generate over a million dollars per year and one third of that will have come from regional customers and tourists that live outside of Red Wing.
What will this money be used for? To help the local economy, to increase jobs, to keep Red Wing one of the best places to live and work.
The local sales tax will pay for projects that
• improve the Riverfront with new trails, a new Levee Park wall, new docks for visiting boaters; and develop a marina in the upper harbor;
• make downtown Red Wing streets safer for pedestrians and improve the landscaping, signals and street lighting;
• catch up on Sheldon Theatre maintenance and add improvements to assure that the Sheldon remains a local and regional center for arts and entertainment;
• form a combined Red Wing Area Senior Center and Red Wing Pottery Museum in the heart of the pottery district.

We, the members of the Local Option Sales Tax Referendum Committee, urge you to vote yes for the local sales tax this November. Keep Red Wing a great place to live, work, and visit!
