10 days out

10 days out for Oct. 18-28, 2012

Spotlight: Step back in time and enjoy the acoustic magic of the Chris Silver Band as it returns to the Oak Center General Store Theater, Saturday Oct. 20.

Silver is known throughout the country as a master of the flatpick guitar and mandolin styles. Formerly of the bands Stoney Lonesome and Tangled Roots, he has stepped out on his own during the last decade to create a different brand of roots and Americana music.

Thinking back of his days as the mandolin player for “A Prairie Home Companion,” Silver remembers Stoney Lonesome as “the perfect opportunity to explore the depths of string band music.”

He spent years learning the styles of Bill Monroe and Tony Rice and then went on to combine those styles with his musical statements. The end result has been a melting pot of tunes that combine layers of bluegrass, jazz, classic rock, Latin, and global influences.

Improvisations and musical spontaneity make each live performance a unique experience that audiences across the region come back for year after year.

Silver has recorded eight solo CDs and will be playing tunes from his upcoming release “Traveler.”

Members of the Chris Silver Band include Peruvian percussionist Chico Chavez, vocalist Erin Govrik, and bassist Pete Mathison.
