Doris Pauline Lohse-Stokes, age 72, of Red Wing, died on Oct. 14 at her residence at Deercrest.

Doris Pauline Lohse-Stokes, age 72, of Red Wing, died on Oct. 14 at her residence at Deercrest.

Doris was born Aug. 20, 1940, in Fox Lake, Minn., to George and Alice (Brensel) Lohse. She graduated from Welcome High School in 1958 and went on to graduate from Mankato State College with a B.S. in education in 1962. After graduation, she completed her classroom teaching at Monticello. Doris taught at Ceylon High School and became the first female speech director at Faribault Senior High School. She taught college-bound speech and English, including term papers and 15-minute orations. She also did 7 years of homebound teaching in Red Wing, teaching pregnant girls and boys who had been in skiing and auto accidents. She married Gerald Kyllo in 1967, and they had two children. They later divorced. She married Gerald Meyer in 1985; they later divorced. She married Ronald M. Stokes in 1989. Ronald died on Dec. 6, 2008. Religiously, Doris had been a Mennonite, Baptist, Methodist, and became an ELCA Lutheran in 1969.

Doris is survived by her loving children, Deanna Peterson of Red Wing and Douglas (Wendy) Kyllo of Zumbrota; grandchildren, Aaron Peterson, Kyera Peterson, Ethan Kyllo, Harley Kyllo, and Braydon Potter; four brothers, Donald, Merle (Donna), Dale (Barb), and Bruce (Sandra) Lohse; two sisters, Virginia (Ed) Cosmillo and Helen (Dennis) Klenz; brother-in-law Richard Kramer. She is also survived by stepchildren, Larry and Ronald W. Stokes; step-grandchildren, Daniel and Skylar Stokes; and many nieces and nephews.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ronald M. Stokes; sister Betty Kramer; sister-in-law Thelma Lohse.

Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 18, at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel in Red Wing. Burial will be on Friday, Oct. 19, at Welcome Cemetery in Welcome, Minn.
