All Stewartville needed was an extra point Friday at home. After scoring on a 30-yard pass play with 1 minute, 13 seconds left in the fourth quarter, the Tigers were unable to hold back Cannon Falls as the Bombers blocked the extra point and handed Stewartville the one-point loss.

“What a great football game,” Cannon Falls head coach Josh Hofstedt said. “The boys had a great week of practice and played one heck of a football game.”

The Bombers scored first on a 64-yard touchdown pass from Hunter Johnson to Jordan Lundell to lead 7-0 at halftime.

Stewartville countered with 4:12 left in the third before Johnson found Lundell again for a 35-yard strike to put Cannon Falls (4-3, 2-3 HVL Blue) up 14-7 at 8:25 of the fourth quarter. The Tigers responded with another touchdown less than two minutes later to tie the game, and Johnson intercepted a pass with four minutes left in the game, returning it 28 yards for the game-winning score.

Johnson finished 11-for-21 passing for 222 yards and two touchdowns while Lundell had seven catches for 178 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Bombers. Lundell also had 67 yards rushing on 11 attempts, and Ian Althoff carried the ball 19 times for 81 yards.
