Football: Triton hands Z-M first HVL Gold loss

Zumbrota-Mazeppa suffered its first Hiawatha Valley League Gold Division loss Friday night at the hands of the Triton Cobras.
Triton beat Z-M 27-21 in Zumbrota. The Cougars fall to 4-1 in the division and 4-3 overall.
The Cobras scored first and never trailed. Z-M scored in the second quarter with a 25-yard scoring pass from Kurt Gadient to Tyler Quam. The extra point was no good, and Triton led 7-6 at halftime.
The Cobras scored the only touchdown of the third quarter. In the fourth quarter, the Cobras scored two early touchdowns to go ahead 27-6.
Z-M fought back and managed two more scores. First, Gadient connected with Sam Edwards for a 7-yard pass, and Cody Krueger ran in the two-point conversion. Then, Gadient found Kevin Niebuhr on a 6-yard pass, with Jacob Tschann kicked the extra point.
Gadient completed 18 of 31 passes for 209 yards.
