Letter: Howe knows business, has aided Port Authority

To the Editor:
I plan to vote for John Howe because I have seen him at work in the Senate and I feel he is capably serving our best interest in St. Paul.
During my term of service to our Port Authority, one objective was to reduce the amount of years a commissioner serves the organization. The aim was to attract more citizens to service by reducing the term from six years to three. A commissioner is able to serve two terms.
That objective almost took an act of Congress.
While I was testifying before a Senate committee, I witnessed Howe lay out our case in a clear and confident manner. The legislation received a majority vote in both house and senate chambers; followed by the governor’s signature.
Recently I asked a newly appointed Port commissioner whether or not he would be serving if the initial term were six-years; he replied, “Probably not…”
During these times of partisan politics and red-ink budgets, I am glad to know we are being represented by a person who has managed a successful business himself. I find John Howe to be a capable and responsive senator who works well with others and I support his candidacy for re-election.
