Red Wing’s season ended Tuesday in a 3-1 loss on the road to Plainview-Elgin-Millville during the first round of the Section 1A playoffs.
The Wingers (5-11, 0-6 Missota) dug themselves a deep hole by giving up three goals in the first half and getting outshot 13-3.
P-E-M scored in the first minute and added another 15 minutes later to go up 2-0. With 10 minutes left in the half, Channing Cordova tallied P-E-M’s final goal.
Red Wing ninth-grader Maddy Hardyman found the back of the net with 16 minutes left in the second half on a corner kick by senior Dani Welscher and the Wingers controlled play in the second half, Red Wing head coach Dusty Beckman said, but it was too late. The Wingers outshot P-E-M 8-3 in the second half.
“We definitely turned the heat on in the second half and it came on a slight formation tweak we made 15 minutes into the second half,” Beckman said. “We tried to develop a little more of an attack. We figured we’d go out guns blazing.”
