Letter: Vote to maintain a respected worldwide institution

To the Editor:
In Genesis 2:18 God says, "It is not good for the man to be alone." God knew what the male needed for his life to be good.
The verse goes on, God says, "I will make him a helper suitable for him." The creator then makes a female, not another male.
In God's plan, the marriage of a man and a woman was what was best. So much of the rhetoric today seems to ignore whose idea it was for there to be two sexes, the reason for the differences in genders and the intended outcome of bringing the two together in marriage.
The Hebrew word often translated "suitable helper" might be translated "completor," that is one who brings to the relationship that which the other lacks so there can be a completeness or a oneness.
Is it possible for one male to be a "suitable helper" for another male? Is it possible for a female to be a "completor" for another female? Not according to God's own words.
It seems like some people think that God's plan was not such a good one. Some seem to imply that God could have, should have, for the good of all, provided more options. Are we more intelligent than God?
A vote to maintain a worldwide, thousands-of-year-old perspective is not a vote against gays and lesbians. Nor is it a vote against quality. A yes vote is a vote for what is best for all individuals, for families and for the society.
My wife and I lived in Prague, Czech Republic, for a year. It is the most atheistic city in the world. You would think that without the influence of religion (Christianity, Judaism, Islam, etc.) same-sex marriage would have been approved of long ago. We heard nothing of such a movement. One reason is the traditional family is so very important to them.
Vote yes for what is good for all individuals, gays and lesbians included. Vote yes for what is good for families. Vote yes for what is good for our society. And, if you believe God, speak up for him at the polls.
