Both incumbent and newcomer are now unopposed in their bids to represent western Red Wing.

Lisa Bayley is seeking re-election in the Red Wing City Council Ward 2. Although Craig Livingstone’s name is also on the ballot, he has stopped campaigning due to his health.

Ward 1 City Council candidate Jason Sebion is running unopposed. Council member Dan Bender announced in April he would not seek re-election.

Bayley, currently the council vice president, has said she favors passage of the local option sales tax — which also is on the ballot — as a different source of revenue to take the burden off of property taxpayers. While she said she sees an important role for municipal government, she also wants to keep the budget lean.

Sebion disagrees with her. He contends a bigger tax bill will hurt Red Wing families.

Other issues facing the City Council next year will include the incinerator, the future of Mississippi National Golf Links, nuclear waste storage and many others.
