Community recreation briefs

Hula hooping

Hula hoop for fitness and learn beginning hoop dancing starting Oct. 22. The class is from 7 to 8 p.m. Mondays for four weeks in the Red Wing High School upper J Pod. Cost is $80.

Nature walks

Environmentalist Bruce Ause will hold two interpretive hikes on local bluffs this month. There is no cost. The first hike will be from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Saturday Oct. 13 in Memorial Park and groups should meet at the lower quarry parking lot. The second will be from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Saturday Oct. 20 at the Billings Tomfohr Conservation Area and groups should meet at the Sumac Drive trail head. The hikes are sponsored by Live Healthy Red Wing.

Community service program

Red Wing High School students can visit the Community Rec office to get program information and a project proposal form for the Community Service Letter program. Students are awarded a letter for completing 50 hours of service in the community.

Skating lessons

Skating lessons will be from 6:15 to 7:15 p.m. Monday nights starting Oct. 22 at Prairie Island Arena. Lessons are for figure skaters and beginning hockey players. The class is broken into 30 minutes of group lesson and 30 minutes of practice ice. Cost is $78 for six weeks. A competitive team skating class for advanced skaters will be 7:15 to 8:15 p.m., with ongoing sessions throughout the school year.

Middle school sports

Middle school students can meet in the gym at Twin Bluff Middle School on Thursdays starting Oct. 25 to play a variety of games like dodge ball, medic, basketball and more. The class will meet from 2:45 to 3:45 p.m. for four weeks. Cost is $11.
