A Food Security Survey completed this year shows 55 percent of Pierce County families in the Women, Infants and Children program are identified as food insecure, while 19 percent are identified with very low food security.
A Food Security Survey completed this year shows 55 percent of Pierce County families in the Women, Infants and Children program are identified as food insecure, while 19 percent are identified with very low food security.
A household is considered food insecure if access to safe, nutritious foods was limited or uncertain at some point during the year, Pierce County Public Health reports. The WIC program provides supplemental foods such as milk, cereal, juice, fruits and vegetables to families who meet income guidelines.
