Cannon Falls played even with top-ranked (3A) Rochester Lourdes for much of the first half in Cannon Falls, but the Eagles’ offense ultimately won out in the HVL Blue Division victory.
The Bombers (3-3, 1-3 HVL Blue) were tied 19-19 with Lourdes (6-0, 4-0 HVL Blue) 3 minutes, 59 seconds remaining in the first half, but the Eagles tallied a touchdown 15 seconds later and scored again with 44 seconds left in the half to lead 33-19 at halftime.
“We did a lot of thing very well and will get better at the things we can,” Cannon Falls head coach Josh Hofstedt said. “There’s a reason why Lourdes is ranked No. 1 in the state.”
Junior Jordan Lundell scored the first touchdown of the game for the Bombers on an 89-yard punt return for a touchdown in the first quarter and ended with three catches for 32 yards. Junior Hunter Johnson finished 12-for-26 passing for 161 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions for Cannon Falls. He also had 67 yards rushing on 12 carries.
The Bombers travel to Stewartville next Friday.
