It was a trying start to the season for Lake City but the Tigers might be turning a corner after defeating Rochester Lourdes in three sets Thursday in Rochester.
The Tigers (4-12, 2-10 HVL) won 25-17, 25-23, 25-19 for their second consecutive Hiawatha Valley League victory.
“Hopefully we’re just getting some confidence and gelling at the right time of the year,” Lake City head coach Kim Bobb said. “We’ve been working up to this.”
Senior Tiffanie Hoops led the Tigers with 14 kills and sophomore Bailey Cronin provided 27 set assists. Senior Taylor Koller had five kills and two blocks, junior Emily Ziebell tallied two kills and eight digs and senior Sara Schmidt finished with four kills and a team-leading 15 digs. Sophomore Breanna Gates had 10 digs.
“She passed really well. It was nice having her back there tonight,” Bobb said of Gates.
Lake City will take part in the Cannon Falls Invite Saturday. The Tigers will face St. Croix Lutheran in the first round of pool play.
