Dry conditions prompted the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources and Goodhue County Sheriff Scott McNurlin to issue a burning ban Monday for all of Goodhue County.
This means that all burning permits have been suspended, no new burn permits will be issued and all fires — including prescribed burns and recreational fires — are prohibited until further notice.
Red Wing Fire Marshal Andy Speltz added that residents should closely monitor surroundings when cooking outdoors or working with flame or heat and to properly dispose of cigarettes and matches.
A small amount of rain is expected toward the end of the week, Speltz said, though it’s not clear when the burning ban will be lifted.
