How would you explain the relationship between SWCD and Goodhue County’s farmers?
SWCD assists farmers in addressing any type of resource concerns. If they have erosion in the field or gullies forming or anything like that, we’ll assist them in securing cost share funds and building the structures needed.
How has SWCD evolved since you first became a board supervisor?
It’s gotten to be a lot more. We’ve taken on a lot more programs. There’s just a lot to do to keep up to snuff, up to regulations.
When I first started 20 years ago, the guys told me that it would be just one meeting a month and that has since evolved to three or more.
One thing we do in Goodhue is we rotate out of the positions. My chairmanship is up at the end of this year. We do two years at a time — that way we keep the supervisors more involved.
