40th anniversary of the Sogn Valley Craft Fair

The 40th anniversary of the Sogn Valley Craft Fair will be 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday Oct. 6 and Sunday Oct. 7 at the idyllic Makarios farm and pottery.

Located 5.5 miles southwest of Cannon Falls on County 24, the fair features a host of fine crafts including pottery, jewelry, paintings, photography, woodcrafts, baskets, metalwork, textiles and weaving.

A variety of vendors will offer local and organic produce, artisan foods, handmade soap and refreshments. Local musician Tony Newes will gather friends and other musicians on Saturday to form his lively group, Mucho Machos.

Sunday, Mary DuShane (formerly of the Buffalo Gals) will bring her new music partner and will stroll around singing and playing tunes as the Moonlight Duo of Mary DuShane and Nick Jordan.

DuShane and her fiddle were in the original Powermilk Biscuit Band on a Prairie Home Companion and have since played everything from fiddle contests and square dances to jug band, jam band and Cajun dance band music. With Jordan on fingerstyle and flatpicked guitar plus mandolin, Irish flute/whistle and vocals, the duo presents southern dance tunes, Cajun, country blues and swing, and Irish tunes to make one smile.
