Cannon Falls’ only three defeats this season have come at the hands of ranked teams after Tuesday’s three-set loss to third-ranked (2A) Kasson-Mantorville in Kasson.

The Bombers (11-3, 7-2 HVL) fell 25-15, 25-15, 25-19. Their other two losses are to second-ranked (2A) Stewartville and third-ranked (1A) Minneota.

“It was a well-fought match,” Cannon Falls head coach Melissa Huseth said. “I know our scores don’t really say that but we did allow a lot of serve reception errors. We didn’t pass as well as we typically do. They are good servers so I’m not taking it all on us. We didn’t pass well and we weren’t able to set up our offense as well. We had a hard time putting the ball away tonight.”

The Bombers finished with just 16 total kills, led by junior Carly Broze’s five. Senior MaKenzie Franklin contributed four kills and six blocks while ninth-grader Hailey Huseth had three kills and three blocks. Junior Lydia Franken tallied Cannon Falls’ only ace serves with three. Junior libero Becca Vandenheuvel notched 21 digs to lead the Bombers.

“We did spend a lot of time playing defense,” Melissa Huseth said. “Their outsides were playing very well. … I truly believe that Kasson is the best team we’ve played this season. They’re very consistent and are very good servers. They seemed to fly through the back court and they didn’t leave any holes open.”

Cannon Falls travels to face Zumbrota-Mazeppa Thursday in Zumbrota.
