Coming off an injury and playing for an extended period for the first time this season, Pine Island/Zumbrota-Mazeppa senior Alison Newton paid huge dividends for the Wildcats.

In the 35th minute, Newton got free for a breakaway, booting a goal into the lower left corner to help put PIZM in the win column with a 1-0 victory over Winona Cotter Tuesday in Hiawatha Valley League play in Pine Island.

“That was a nice breakaway goal for Alison,” said Wildcats head coach Doug Weincouff. “She carried the ball a long ways and got it in there.”

PIZM (6-7-2, 3-3 HVL) finished the regular season on Thursday against Byron in Pine Island.
