Red Wing High School students are now back in their classrooms after being evacuated earlier this morning when smoke was seen in an area of the school.

According to Principal Beth Borgen, a teacher noticed smoke in the lower H-pod of the building and pulled a fire alarm, triggering an evacuation of the building. Students and staff exited the building in a timely fashion, she said.

Red Wing Fire Department responded and, after a check of the building, found no fire. The smoke was caused by a motor overheating in a mechanical room, Borgen said. Fans were used to clear the smoke from the building.

Classes resumed as normal at about 10:45.
