Cross-Country: Trost strong at ZM/KW invite

Cannon Falls junior takes first place with a time of 14:43.1

Cannon Falls junior runner Emi Trost continued her dominance on the cross-country course on Thursday, taking first place in the Zumbrota-Mazeppa/Kenyon-Wanamingo Invitational at the Zumbrota Golf Course.

Trost took first place with a time of 14 minutes, 43.1 seconds, running a pace of 5:56 per mile. Trost outran the second-place runner, Waseca’s Sally O’Brien, by 35 seconds.

The Bombers took fifth place with a team score of 143, with Katherine Hoffman (16:55.9) and Amber Edwards (17:22.1) taking 22nd and 36th place, respectively.

For ZM/KW, Skyler Jacobson led the team with an eighth-place time of 15:59.7. Emily Karl (17:03.9) and Callie Ryan (17:21.8) followed up in 27th and 35th place, respectively, helping ZM/KW to a seventh-place finish with 159 points.

Waseca won the team title with 38 points, edging Rochester Lourdes, which was second with 44 points. Stewartville (127), Winona Cotter (132) and Cannon Falls rounded up the top five.

ZM/KW boys finish 4th

Zumbrota-Mazeppa/Kenyon-Wanamingo sophomores Micah Grove and Eric Hokanson led ZM/KW’s pack on Thursday, helping the team to a fourth-place finish.

Grove finished in 14th place with a time of 18:00.3, with Hokanson finishing right behind in 15th place at 18:00.8. Ben Nystuen added a 20th-place time of 18:28.3 to help ZM/KW to a team score of 135.

Cannon Falls, led by freshman Bjorn Pearson, took seventh with a score of 210. Pearson ran a time of 18:51.3, good for 31st place, while Karl Ritzman ran a time of 18:59.9 for 35th place.

Waseca was victorious in the team standings with a score of 26. Shane Streich led four Bluejay runners with a first-place time of 15:34.9. Byron (71), Kasson-Mantorville (72), ZM/KW and Rochester Lourdes (156) completed the top five.
