Junior Kali Ryan provided a team-leading 13 kills as Goodhue defeated Byron in four sets Thursday in Goodhue 25-18, 25-23, 24-26, 25-22.
“She played really well,” Goodhue head coach Andy Kimball said. “These last couple matches we’ve been really efficient with our offense. We’ve been really crisp with our play.”
The Wildcats (6-10, 4-4 HVL) controlled most of the first set but the rest of the match was up-and-down, Kimball said.
“It stayed pretty close most of the time,” he said. “There was a lot of back-and-forth tonight; a lot of long points.”
Junior Mikayla Tipcke contributed nine kills and had a team-leading 32 set assists and 27 digs for Goodhue. Junior Emilee Roschen finished with 23 digs and sophomore Shelby Hinsch tallied 3 ½ blocks.
“Another thing that was really big tonight, our blocking was pretty good,” Kimball said. “(3 ½) doesn’t sound like a lot but (Hinsch) gets her hands on a lot of stuff, forcing people to hit where they don’t want to hit.”
The Wildcats host Z-M Tuesday.
