As the 2012 recipient of the Amos Owen award, I wish to thank the Red Wing Human Rights Commission for giving me this honor at the recent Diversity Festival.

To the Editor:

As the 2012 recipient of the Amos Owen award, I wish to thank the Red Wing Human Rights Commission for giving me this honor at the recent Diversity Festival. I also wish to thank the friends and colleagues who nominated me.

A very special thanks to the Owen family that presented me with a beautiful photograph of Amos Owen. The award and the photograph hang in a special place in my home to remind me of this very great honor.

Thanks also to Red Wing for giving me opportunities to volunteer and work for people in need and whose rights are in jeopardy. This community has made a commitment to care about human rights and provide opportunities for community members to become acquainted and reach a better understanding of one another.

I will try to continue to work with people with the respect and care that Amos Owen demonstrated in his life.
