After Kenyon-Wanamingo put up a field goal to go up 3-0 midway through the first quarter, Lake City’s offense took off for 14 points in the next five minutes.

And from there, the Tigers never relented as they moved to the top of the Hiawatha Valley League Gold division after thrashing the Knights 55-11 in Kenyon.

After quarterback Ben Schramski converted on a long fourth-down play, Mitch Kuchinka put Lake City on the board with a two-yard touchdown with 2 minutes, 50 seconds left in the first quarter. Over a minute later, Coleman Sweeney came up with an interception, and a play later, hauled in a 10-yard touchdown catch from Schramski to put the Tigers up 14-3.

In the second quarter, Sweeney snatched another touchdown, this time for 26 yards. Will Balow and Kuchinka also found the end zone in the second quarter to put the Tigers up 35-3 at halftime. Elliot Cox, Shane Siewert and Hartzell had rushing touchdowns of 35, 1 and 52 yards, respectively, after halftime.

Lake City (3-1, 3-0 HVL) finished the game with 233 yards on the ground and 130 in the air, and limited K-W to 11 yards passing. Schramski finished the night 7 of 10 passing for 130 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

Winners of three straight, Lake City hosts Stewartville next Friday for its homecoming game.
