Music Class

Third- and fourth-grade music classes are learning the song “50 Nifty United States,” which teaches them to memorize all of the states.

Media Center

The fourth-grade classes discussed the fantasy genre and enjoyed the book "Mirrorstone" by Michael Palin. The third-grade classes are learning about fiction books and how fiction books are arranged. Second-grade classes are enjoying the Miss Nelson series.

Art Class

Second-graders are polishing their drawing skills by sketching animals from illustrations. They are enlarging one of their animals to paint and color during their next session.

Third-graders are drawing fish and studying the illustrations published by Louis Renard in the 1700s showing the fantastic fish of the Indian Ocean. They are using ideas from the Renard book to draw and paint some amazing fantasy fish of their own.

Fourth-graders are learning about Thomas Day, the famous African-American furniture maker from before the Civil War. They are studying his life and looking at his work and learning a little about the time in which he lived. Each student then drew a still-life of artifacts from Red Wing’s past.

Red Wing High School student Kayla Ekblad is working with the students in Mrs. Peterson’s art classes as a student intern. She comes every other day to help students with their art.

Kids Junction

The children have been taking care of Monarch caterpillars that recently turned into the chrysalis stage. They also have constructed their own puzzles with Popsicle sticks.

Burnside today

Burnside teachers are continuing to fill the announcer positions for the Burnside Today morning news program. So far Sheila Beckner, Scott Briske, Gretchen Anderson, Amanda Stokes, Jill Cody, TaNesha Messner, Emily Seefeldt, and Mike Lupella have all worked as news anchors this year. Fourth-graders will begin auditions soon to fill the news announcer and camera positions for the remainder of the school year on Burnside Today.

Fourth grade

The Burnside fourth-graders are busy working on school and classroom rules. Our Learner’s Way pledge helps to guide this project. That pledge is: “I work wisely, I am polite and kind, I am patient with others, I am a team player, I move and play safely, I take care of Burnside School and I will be the best I can be!”
