Letter: Schmit will forge real compromise

To the Editor:

For over 30 years we have known Matt Schmit and his family. In that time, Matt graduated from Red Wing High School and went on to become a successful small business owner, applying his 10 years of public policy experience to tackle some of Minnesota's most pressing problems.

Like our friends and neighbors, we are tired of typical politicians who say one thing in person or in an email, but do something completely different in St. Paul. We remember when statesmen worked across the aisle to forge real compromises with Minnesotans' best interests at heart. It's hard to know what's happening at the Capitol today.

We know exactly what we'll be getting with Schmit: an ethical leader committed to making Minnesota work again. He is a Minnesota moderate who will rise above party politics and work with anyone — Republican, Democrat or Independent — to balance our state's budget, invest in our children's future and streamline state government services, so that economic opportunities exist for our children and grandchildren. That's what made this state great in the first place. It's the leadership Minnesotans deserve.

On Nov. 6, we can send politicians a clear message: Minnesota needs leaders who will focus on making our state work again. Fortunately, we don't have to look far for somebody who gets it, and that's why Matt Schmit has our vote.
