Girls Soccer: Farmington grounds Red Wing

A tight Tigers defense keeps the Wingers off the board as Red Wing loses 5-0 on Tuesday

For the first 60 minutes of Tuesday’s Missota Conference match with Farmington, Red Wing girls soccer coach Dusty Beckman saw some of the best play his team has put together all season as the Wingers trailed 2-0.

But in the last 20 minutes of the game, the Tigers (3-0 Missota, 7-2-2) exploded for three goals on the way to a 5-0 shutout victory in Farmington.

“It was a much better game than the score indicated,” Beckman said. “The way it was played, it was more like a 2-0 game.

“They got a lot of corner kicks,” Beckman added, “and they found our weaknesses that way.”

Beckman said Red Wing managed to set up its offense often against Farmington, but couldn’t crack the Tigers’ defense on the way to getting shut out for the fifth time this season.

“We got a lot of shots off around their best defender,” Beckman said, “and we had a good offensive game. Their goalkeeper was outstanding, though.”

The Wingers (0-2 Missota, 3-6) stay on the road Thursday to take on Chaska in another Missota Conference match-up.
