With Tuesday’s match with Stewartville tied at 3-3, Cannon Falls’ Samantha Modrak came up in a big way in a three-set match with Gabrielle Steinhoff.

After Steinhoff won the second set 7-5, the two duked it out in the third and final set, going into a tiebreaker. From there, Modrak took control to take the tiebreaker, 7-4, clinching No. 1 singles and the match for the Bombers in a 4-3 Hiawatha Valley League victory.

“It was a very close match again,” said Cannon Falls head coach Paul Norstad. “It seems like every conference match this year is close.

“I trust Sam a lot,” Norstad added. “I think we let some get away. She was down 0-3 in the third set, but she did a good job of never giving up.”

The Bombers took three of four in singles, with Tayler Banitt and Grace Rutter winning No. 3 and 4 singles, respectively.

Taking the lone doubles win for Cannon Falls was the team of Maddie Adel and Sheyenne Bauer, who defeated Stewartville’s Taylor Severson and Madeline Grimm 6-1, 6-2.

The Bombers (2-2 HVL, 8-8) host Lake City on Thursday in an HVL match.
