To the Editor:
The first time I worked with Paul Drotos was at the Y Camp pulling tree stumps for the Red Wing Lions Club. I honestly didn't think much of him until I gave him a chain and a chainsaw while I drove the bobcat. Pulling stumps used to be the measure of a man, and Paul measured up.
Years later, when he had the "big idea" to make what he called "Sescrocks" for Red Wing's Sesquicentennial, I fronted the prototype money, but it was his enthusiasm for something completely different that sold 1,200 of those things.
And, by the way, the money raised was the very first contribution to the Universal Playground — $5,000.
I also have worked with Paul on a Habitat House and on "Ribs and Bibs," which is another idea he came up with.
It's one thing to have enthusiasm and imagination; but in order to get something done, you need planning. Paul has proved to me over and over that he is very good at that.
I have seen Paul Drotos volunteer his time and abilities for some amazing things. He is the kind of leader that would improve any Goodhue County Board of Commissioners. I am glad that he is running for ours.
